What's the best way to ship parts.
"We use UPS for shipping. UPS offers the following shipping options:
1. Next Day Air (red)
2. 2nd Day Air (blue)
3. 3 Day service (orange)
What's the best way to pay for parts.
The best way to pay for parts is with your credit card. We also accept C.O.D. but there is a $6 charge for the service and requires a Certified Check or Money Order. We will call you ahead of time with the total. For credit card orders please have your card info handy when you call.
I'm interested in becoming a Speedway Engineering Dealer, what's required.
We have 2 types of distributors:
1. OEM Distributors - This is the chassis manufacturer who requires our parts to build their parts.
2. Racing Parts and/or Track Truck shop. We need a picture of your storefront, showroom, or chassis shop. Trade and Bank references are required as well as a copy of your business license and resale card.
Please contact us for more information.
Which rate or size of Sway Bar should I use?
We have over 100 sizes of Bars on the shelf. The length of bar is determined by adding 3 inches to the width of frame rails on the chassis. For sway bar wall thickness, we suggest you first look at our swaybar rate chart located in the Tech Section of this website. This will show you the rates for most of our sway bars. We also suggest you contact your chassis manufacturer for a starting sway bar.
Why are Torque Tough Sway Bars by Speedway Engineering better than other brands?
The OEM, flapper style, bar will work to a point on left hand turns. Under loose conditions, there's no load or control from the sway bar to the right rear. Our Torque Tough Sway Bar has these advantages:
1. More precise ratings
2. More sizes and rates available
3. Works bi-directionally in both left and right hand turns increasing stability
How much and which oil do you recommend for your rear end units?
We suggest you use a good grade oil, 85-140 wt,. such as Mobil 1, which we use on our house car. Never fill the Quick Changes or Ford housings any higher than bottom of 3 in axle tube. We do install level checks, at that point on all our Quick Changes and Floater housings. On the Quick Changes this is on the right side bell and/or on the center spur gear case. On the Floater Housings, the level check is on the back cover.
How do I order a housing?
We will need the following information:
1. The width from where the wheel bolts on to where the wheel bolts on -- excluding the brake hats and wheel spacers. See the Rear End ordering info located in the Tech Section of this website. Please note we will need to know the type of Hub (Wide 5, GN, 2 in. Bearing, Mod Lite, etc.)and bolt circle you will be using.
2. The pinion is considered centerline on all rears. We will need the length from pinion to the left side, then length from pinion to the right side.
How do I check my Rear End to see if it is straight?
Take the housing out of your car, leaving on the hubs, wheels and tires. Drain the oil. Set the tires on a couple of old rims or milk crates and spin the center. A bent housing will make wheel and tires have run-out or wobble. Less than 1/16 in. total or .032" per side runout is within tolerance and is OK. A straight housing will not have runout.
Do I need Inboard Housing Seals on my racecar?
The advantage of these seals is they keep the gear lube at the gear and there's no need to over-fill center with gear oil. We do recommend these seals for all housings. We sell 2 styles, the single lip and the double lip style. The double lip is more for housings when there is a higher degree of misalignment (tubes not on centerline). The double lips are also more fragile and care must be taken during axle installation. If the tubes are straight, the single lip is more than adequate.
What should "End Play" on Axles be set for?
Please see the Setting Axle End play on a Full Floating Rear Axle Housing located in the Tech Section of this website.
How much spline engagement is enough?
Aluminum spool - 1 1/2 in. If side gears are steel 1 in. is safe.
What kind of Hub do I have on my Floater/Quick Change?
Please see the Snout Identifier located in the Tech Section of this website.
